Advance tax and tax planning

Estimate your tax during the year and pay it in instalments to avoid interest.

About Advance tax and tax planning

Advance tax means paying income tax in instalments during the year instead of in one lump sum at the end. It applies when your total tax liability for the year, after TDS, is Rs 10,000 or more. The tax is paid on 15 June (15%), 15 September (45% cumulative), 15 December (75% cumulative) and 15 March (100%). Taxpayers under the presumptive scheme for business can pay the whole amount in one instalment by 15 March.

If you pay too little or too late, interest is charged for the shortfall. We estimate your income, prepare the challan details and also look at ways to plan your tax before the year ends.
